Solar work in Pattani at a glance
Work in Pattani divides clearly by distance from the Gulf of Thailand. Mueang Pattani is home to the Pattani fishing port, so the businesses around it are fish piers, cold storage and ice plants whose compressors barely stop, while the town itself has shophouses, government buildings and Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus. Yaring has the most marine shrimp farms in the province and Nong Chik is among the top, and these ponds run aerators and pumps continuously through each growing cycle. The eastern coast of Panare, Sai Buri and Mai Kaen is small-scale fishing, where power goes to seafood freezers, with brackish-water cage farming and the restaurants along Wasukri Beach adding to the mix in Sai Buri.
Inland from the coast is the Pattani River plain. Yarang, Mae Lan and Mayo are rubber plantations and rice fields, where power goes mainly to homes and field pumps. Yarang is an area where the river overflows its banks into homes during the late-year monsoon. The south of the province rises into the mountains: southern Khok Pho runs on into Sai Khao, Kapho sits against the Budo range with its durian, mangosteen and longkong orchards, and Thung Yang Daeng has swamps that flood over wide areas in the rainy season. Most work in this group is orchard irrigation far from the power lines.
Who solar suits in Pattani
Fishing is the part of Pattani's economy that sets it apart from other provinces: fish piers, cold storage and ice plants around the fishing port, and shrimp farms and aquaculture ponds around Pattani Bay. These businesses run compressors, paddle-wheel aerators and pumps continuously, so they use almost all the power generated during the day. Inland areas are rubber plantations, rice fields and orchards where power goes mainly to water pumps. For seaside work, we choose mounting structures and equipment that resist salt air from the design stage.
How the work differs across districts in Pattani
In Pattani, most work is close to water one way or another. Six districts are on the coast: Nong Chik, Mueang Pattani, Yaring, Panare, Sai Buri and Mai Kaen. Work there faces salt air carried on the sea wind, and aquaculture ponds around Pattani Bay usually have no large building roof for panels, so the frames have to stand on pond embankments of soft mud. Further inland is the Pattani River floodplain, including Mae Lan and Yarang, where the river has overflowed its banks and flooded as far as Pattani town during the late-year monsoon, so distribution boards and inverters must be mounted above past flood levels. Only the south of Khok Pho, Kapho and Thung Yang Daeng is mountainous, and there the challenge shifts to mountain shade in the morning and evening and to pumping water up to hillside orchards.

The fishing port and Pattani town
Fish piers, cold storage and ice plants around the fishing port, and shophouses and government buildings in town. The port and salt-pan areas take salt air directly, and in town, where floods have run high, distribution boards are best mounted upstairs or on the roof.

The eastern fishing coast
Small-scale fishing and seafood freezers in Panare and Mai Kaen, and brackish-water cage farming and the restaurants on Wasukri Beach in Sai Buri. The monsoon blows in from the sea at full strength, so fixings must resist salt air and allow for wind load.

FAQ
Questions from customers in Pattani
Does 19Energy install solar in Pattani?
Yes. We provide surveys, installation and after-sales care in Pattani Province. Site surveys are by appointment, and any travel charge is confirmed before booking.
If something goes wrong after installation in Pattani, how fast can you come out?
You can check your generation yourself in the inverter's app, so you can report a problem as soon as the figures look wrong, and we can make a first diagnosis remotely. When a site visit is needed, we book it by appointment in Pattani, covering Mueang Pattani, Khok Pho and Nong Chik and the other districts in the province, and always confirm the date in advance.
Does installation in Pattani cost more than elsewhere?
We don't add a surcharge by province. Any travel charge is confirmed before booking. What really changes the price is the site conditions, not the location. In Pattani, the conditions that move the price most are the differences between districts. Fishing and aquaculture are the main work here, both cold storage and ice plants around the fishing port and shrimp ponds around Pattani Bay. They run continuously and use almost all of their daytime power, but ponds that need aeration at night must have backup power designed in. Our quote therefore comes from a real site survey, which costs THB 1,200–1,500 and is refunded in full against your quote when you go ahead with the installation.
Is there enough sunshine in Pattani for solar?
Yes. The province is on the Gulf of Thailand side. The heaviest rain falls from November to December with the northeast monsoon. It is the lowest-output period of the year, and also when low-lying land along the Pattani and Sai Buri rivers is at risk of the rivers overflowing. We calculate using a Southern Thailand solar yield of 1,350 kWh per kWp per year, which already includes the rainy season and is lower than for other regions of the country. The payback figures we give are based on real conditions in the South.

How is solar installation in Pattani different from other provinces in the South?
Fishing and aquaculture are the main work here, both cold storage and ice plants around the fishing port and shrimp ponds around Pattani Bay. They run continuously and use almost all of their daytime power, but ponds that need aeration at night must have backup power designed in.
Where do you apply to PEA for a solar system in Pattani, and who files it?
Pattani is served by the Provincial Electricity Authority Area 3 (Yala), which covers Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla, Satun and Phatthalung. A system connected to the PEA grid needs a grid-connection application and an inspection before it is switched on. We prepare the drawings and documents and file everything for you. A system that is not connected to the grid, such as a solar water pump wired straight to the panels in an orchard, does not need a grid-connection application.
Shrimp ponds in Yaring and Nong Chik have no roof for panels. How is solar installed?
Panels go on steel frames on the ground or on the pond embankments, which are soft mud that weakens when wet. The frame foundations are therefore designed for the actual soil at each pond, and the frames and bolts must be made of materials that withstand brackish water. Inverters and distribution boards should sit in a covered, well-ventilated shed. Ponds that need aeration at night must have batteries or backup power sized to the actual number of aerators, or be designed to switch to grid power as soon as the sun goes down.
How much solar power can cold storage and ice plants around the Pattani fishing port use?
The businesses around the port run their compressors almost without a break, so nearly all the power the panels generate in the daytime is used on site. The right system size therefore depends on each site's roof area and actual electricity bills. The port and the salt pans along Pattani Bay take the sea wind directly, and salt air builds up on fixings and connections faster than at inland sites, so the equipment is corrosion-resistant from the design stage.
My home in Mueang Pattani, Yarang or by the Sai Buri River has flooded before. Does the installation need to be different?
The difference is where the equipment goes. Distribution boards, inverters and batteries should be mounted above the level that house has flooded to, such as upstairs or on the roof. There should also be a breaker that can isolate the system from upstairs, so it can be shut down as soon as the water starts to rise.
How should a solar pump be chosen for a durian orchard in the Budo foothills of Kapho?
By the height the water has to be lifted, not just the volume needed. Orchards in the Budo foothills are often on sloping ground and far from the power lines. Pumping water up to plots higher than the source needs a pump that can lift it that far, and the panels must be placed where they clear the morning shadow of the hills, because orchards behind the ridge get sun later than flat land.
How should seaside homes in Panare and Mai Kaen plan installation and upkeep?
These two districts have sea to the north and the east, so they take the full force of the northeast monsoon at the end of the year. Mounting must allow for wind load from the sea and use salt-resistant materials. November to December is the wettest period, when roof work often has to be rescheduled around the weather, so allow extra time when booking. After the monsoon, the salt film on the panel surface should be washed off, because built-up salt reduces the light the panels receive.
Built for the southern climate
Coastal and island sites in Pattani
Three conditions that shape how a system is designed near the sea in Southern Thailand.
Salt air
Sea spray carries chloride that speeds up corrosion. The panels themselves (glass front, aluminum frame) hold up well — the risk is in the metal parts around them: screws, hooks, junction boxes and cable connectors. For coastal sites we use aluminum mounting structures and stainless-steel fixings, keep the inverter out of direct sea spray, and recommend washing panels with fresh water more often, because salt deposits don't rinse off in the rain.
Solar near the sea: salt air and corrosionHeavy rain, cloud and monsoon wind
Panels run on light, not heat, so they still produce on overcast days. We size systems using 1,350 kWh per kWp per year for the South, a yearly average that already includes rainy and cloudy days. The inverter should sit in a shaded, ventilated spot out of driving rain, every connection must be sealed against water, and mounting on the coast has to be designed for the actual monsoon wind load of that site.
Does solar work in the southern rainy season?Lightning
Panels mounted flat on a roof barely change a building's height, so they don't meaningfully attract lightning. The real damage comes from surges when lightning strikes nearby. A system should have surge protection on both the DC side (from the panels) and the AC side (to your consumer unit), plus grounding that bonds the mounting and every panel frame.
