Solar Panel Installation in Surat Thani & Koh Samui
Solar panel installation in Surat Thani, on Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and the mainland, with completed projects in the province: a 15 kW hybrid system on Koh Samui and a 35 kW on-grid system in Tha Chang.
Solar work in Surat Thani & Koh Samui at a glance
In Surat Thani, the first question is always island or mainland. On Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao, the main businesses are hotels, resorts, villas, restaurants and dive businesses that run air-conditioning, water pumps and pools almost all the time, and owners care a lot about backup power. Hybrid systems with batteries are therefore requested more often than on the mainland. Don Sak, the ferry port to the islands, has port businesses, fishing and cold storage.
On the mainland, Mueang district on the Tapi River is offices, commercial buildings, hotels and riverside cold storage. Phunphin is the transport hub, with the railway station, warehouses and processing plants. Around Ban Don Bay there are agricultural processing plants in Tha Chang, oyster and shrimp farms in Kanchanadit, and rice fields and coconut groves in Chaiya. In the south of the province, Wiang Sa is a trading center with retail stores and palm loading yards, and Ban Na San is rambutan orchards and rubber on sloping land.
Who solar suits in Surat Thani & Koh Samui
Surat Thani is one of the largest agro-industrial provinces in Southern Thailand. Palm oil mills and rubber processing plants run continuously through the day, a usage pattern that lets solar pay back noticeably faster than on a home. For hotels and resorts in the province, electricity is also a major cost.
How the work differs across districts in Surat Thani & Koh Samui
Surat Thani is the largest province in Southern Thailand by area, and the only one where our work splits clearly into two kinds: island jobs and mainland jobs. On Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan, every item has to cross by boat, so an on-site fix that needs extra parts costs weeks rather than days. We therefore survey in more detail than usual before ordering anything. On the mainland, the work is palm oil mills, fruit packing houses and aquaculture ponds along Ban Don Bay, whose power use varies through the year with the harvest seasons.

FAQ
Questions from customers in Surat Thani & Koh Samui
Does 19Energy install solar in Surat Thani & Koh Samui?
Yes. We provide surveys, installation and after-sales care in Surat Thani Province. Site surveys are by appointment, and any travel charge is confirmed before booking.
If something goes wrong after installation in Surat Thani & Koh Samui, how fast can you come out?
You can check your generation yourself in the inverter's app, so you can report a problem as soon as the figures look wrong, and we can make a first diagnosis remotely. When a site visit is needed, we book it by appointment in Surat Thani & Koh Samui, covering Mueang Surat Thani, Koh Samui and Tha Chang and the other districts in the province, and always confirm the date in advance.
Does installation in Surat Thani & Koh Samui cost more than elsewhere?
We don't add a surcharge by province. Any travel charge is confirmed before booking. What really changes the price is the site conditions, not the location. In Surat Thani & Koh Samui, the conditions that move the price most are the differences between districts. It has both island work and mainland work within one province, two kinds of job that are planned and costed for transport in completely different ways. Our quote therefore comes from a real site survey, which costs THB 1,200–1,500 and is refunded in full against your quote when you go ahead with the installation.
Is there enough sunshine in Surat Thani & Koh Samui for solar?
Yes. The province is on the Gulf of Thailand side. The heaviest rain comes at the end of the year, and the islands and the mainland do not get the same number of clear days because clouds form differently over each. We calculate using a Southern Thailand solar yield of 1,350 kWh per kWp per year, which already includes the rainy season and is lower than for other regions of the country. The payback figures we give are based on real conditions in the South.
Which districts in Surat Thani & Koh Samui do you cover?
All 19 districts of Surat Thani Province. Send us your district name on LINE and we will arrange a survey date and confirm any travel charge before the visit.
How is solar installation in Surat Thani & Koh Samui different from other provinces in the South?
It has both island work and mainland work within one province, two kinds of job that are planned and costed for transport in completely different ways.
Has 19Energy completed projects in Surat Thani?
Yes. The first is a 15 kW three-phase hybrid system on Koh Samui, using a Solis 15 kW inverter and an LVTopsun 314Ah battery, for a home that wanted solar power together with backup. The second is a 35 kW on-grid system on a building in Tha Chang district, for a business that uses most of its power in the daytime.
How is installing on Koh Samui or Koh Pha Ngan different from the mainland?
Every piece of equipment crosses by boat, and at many bays on Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao it then has to be carried up steep slopes from the pier. An on-site fix that needs extra parts therefore costs weeks rather than days. We survey in more detail than usual before ordering, and lock the shipping and installation schedules together from the start. Being surrounded by sea also makes salt-resistant equipment standard, not an optional extra.
Can a rambutan or fruit orchard on sloping land in Ban Na San use a solar pump?
Yes, as long as it is sized correctly. A pump lifting water uphill needs much more power than one pumping on flat ground, even at the same flow rate. We calculate from the actual lift height plus the pipe length, not just from the size of the existing pump. Sizing from the lift height ensures the water reaches the top of the slope.
A retail store in Wiang Sa uses the most power in the late afternoon. Should we add panels or a battery?
Air-conditioning and fridge loads at retail stores in Wiang Sa peak in the late afternoon, about two hours after the panels' peak output. We therefore look at hourly usage, not just the monthly total. In cases like this, a small battery that shifts power into the afternoon often pays off better than adding more panels.
How much does coconut-palm shade affect a house in Chaiya?
More than it looks. Coconut fronds cast narrow moving strips of shade across the roof all day. This kind of strip shading costs series-connected panels more output than the shaded area alone would suggest, so string layout and module-level power electronics matter more here than on an open site.
Built for the southern climate
Coastal and island sites in Surat Thani & Koh Samui
Three conditions that shape how a system is designed near the sea in Southern Thailand.
Salt air
Sea spray carries chloride that speeds up corrosion. The panels themselves (glass front, aluminum frame) hold up well — the risk is in the metal parts around them: screws, hooks, junction boxes and cable connectors. For coastal sites we use aluminum mounting structures and stainless-steel fixings, keep the inverter out of direct sea spray, and recommend washing panels with fresh water more often, because salt deposits don't rinse off in the rain.
Solar near the sea: salt air and corrosionHeavy rain, cloud and monsoon wind
Panels run on light, not heat, so they still produce on overcast days. We size systems using 1,350 kWh per kWp per year for the South, a yearly average that already includes rainy and cloudy days. The inverter should sit in a shaded, ventilated spot out of driving rain, every connection must be sealed against water, and mounting on the coast has to be designed for the actual monsoon wind load of that site.
Does solar work in the southern rainy season?Lightning
Panels mounted flat on a roof barely change a building's height, so they don't meaningfully attract lightning. The real damage comes from surges when lightning strikes nearby. A system should have surge protection on both the DC side (from the panels) and the AC side (to your consumer unit), plus grounding that bonds the mounting and every panel frame.
