Solar work in Yala at a glance
Yala is the only province in Southern Thailand with no coastline, so its work divides by terrain rather than distance from the sea. The north of the province, Mueang Yala, Raman, Yaha and Krong Pinang, lies on the Pattani and Sai Buri river plains among gently rolling hills. Mueang Yala is the center of government, education and trade, open in the daytime when panels produce the most. The other three districts are rice fields, rubber plantations and durian and longkong orchards where water pumps are the main load, and Yaha has durian paste processing groups that work during the day.
From the center to the south, the land rises into the Sankalakhiri range. Bannang Sata is home to the Bang Lang Dam, yet orchards that need water in the dry season still pump from their own streams or wells. Than To is orchards and rubber in mountain valleys, Kabang is mountains interspersed with foothill plains, and Betong in the far south is a tourist town with many hotels, restaurants and guesthouses. Work in this group has to account for mountain shade, morning fog and evening rain, which make the hours of full panel output shorter than on flat land.
Who solar suits in Yala
Yala is a farming province where rubber is the main crop throughout, followed by durian, mangosteen and longkong. Orchards that need water in the dry season run pumps during the day, which suits solar well, and plots far from the power lines can use a solar pump set wired directly to the pump. In Yala town, the buildings are government offices, schools and shops open in the daytime, while Betong is a tourist town where hotels and restaurants carry electricity as a fixed monthly cost.
How the work differs across districts in Yala
Yala is the only province in Southern Thailand with no coastline, and most of it is hills and mountains along the Sankalakhiri range. The northern districts of Mueang Yala, Raman, Yaha and Krong Pinang lie on the Pattani and Sai Buri river plains among gently rolling hills; the challenge there is shade from rubber and fruit trees around the house, and standing water on low ground by the rivers. Bannang Sata, Than To, Kabang and Betong are in the mountains, where ridges block the morning or evening sun differently depending on which way the valley faces. Betong and Than To also have morning fog and evening rain that shorten the hours of full sun each day, so systems in the mountain districts have to be sized from the actual sun hours of high ground.

FAQ
Questions from customers in Yala
Does 19Energy install solar in Yala?
Yes. We provide surveys, installation and after-sales care in Yala Province. Site surveys are by appointment, and any travel charge is confirmed before booking.
If something goes wrong after installation in Yala, how fast can you come out?
You can check your generation yourself in the inverter's app, so you can report a problem as soon as the figures look wrong, and we can make a first diagnosis remotely. When a site visit is needed, we book it by appointment in Yala, covering Mueang Yala, Betong and Bannang Sata and the other districts in the province, and always confirm the date in advance.
Does installation in Yala cost more than elsewhere?
We don't add a surcharge by province. Any travel charge is confirmed before booking. What really changes the price is the site conditions, not the location. In Yala, the conditions that move the price most are the differences between districts. There is no coastal work in this province at all. The main challenges are shade from mountains and trees, fog on high ground and standing water on low ground, rather than the salt air of coastal provinces. Our quote therefore comes from a real site survey, which costs THB 1,200–1,500 and is refunded in full against your quote when you go ahead with the installation.
Is there enough sunshine in Yala for solar?
Yes. The province has no coastline but gets its rain from the northeast monsoon, like the Gulf of Thailand side. Rain is heaviest from October to December, and mountain districts such as Betong and Than To have fog in the morning and frequent rain in the evening. We calculate using a Southern Thailand solar yield of 1,350 kWh per kWp per year, which already includes the rainy season and is lower than for other regions of the country. The payback figures we give are based on real conditions in the South.

How is solar installation in Yala different from other provinces in the South?
There is no coastal work in this province at all. The main challenges are shade from mountains and trees, fog on high ground and standing water on low ground, rather than the salt air of coastal provinces.
Where do you apply to PEA for a solar system in Yala, and who files it?
Yala is served by the Provincial Electricity Authority Area 3 (Yala), which covers Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla, Satun and Phatthalung. A system connected to the PEA grid needs a grid-connection application and an inspection before it is switched on. We prepare the drawings and documents and file everything for you. A system that is not connected to the grid, such as a solar water pump wired straight to the panels in an orchard, does not need a grid-connection application.
Betong has morning fog and evening rain. Will solar produce enough power there?
The system has to be sized for Betong's own weather. The weather here changes several times a day: mornings are often foggy, midday is sunny and evenings often bring rain, so the hours of full panel output are shorter than on flat land. We therefore assess from the actual sun hours of high ground, and check which roof faces are shaded by the mountains in the morning or evening. Hotels and restaurants run guest rooms, kitchens and freezers all day, so the power generated in the daytime goes straight into that use.
My house in a rubber plantation in Yaha or Krong Pinang has rubber-tree shade on the roof. Can panels still go up?
Yes, but the roof direction and the height of the surrounding trees must be checked before the system is sized. Mature rubber trees often cast shade across the roof at some times of day, so the panels need to go on the roof face that is clearest around midday. Some houses may also need the surrounding branches trimmed, and at some sites a ground-mounted frame in an open spot works better than the roof.
Orchards in Bannang Sata and Than To are far from the power lines. Can they pump water with solar?
Yes. A solar pump set with the panels wired directly to the pump usually costs less than running power lines out to the plot. Even though Bannang Sata has the Bang Lang Dam reservoir, orchards that need water in the dry season often pump from their own streams or wells, a daytime load that suits solar well. Than To gets the same morning fog and evening rain as Betong, so the design also allows for lower daily output than on flat land.
What should homes on low ground by the Sai Buri River in Raman watch out for?
Water. Some of the low ground by the Sai Buri River is swamp with standing water almost all year, and rain in Yala is heaviest from October to December. Control boxes and inverters therefore have to be installed above the highest level the water has reached. Homes in orchards on the hillsides toward the mountains, by contrast, need to watch for tree shade more than water.
Buildings in Yala town have large trees along the road. How are panels placed?
The shade of the roadside trees, which shifts with the seasons, has to be taken into account. The streets of Yala town have been lined with large trees on both sides since the town was first laid out, so many homes and low buildings along the road have tree shade across the roof at some times of day. Shophouses in the commercial district have narrow, deep roofs, so the system is sized from the area that actually gets sun, not from the whole roof.
